• This third edition of a basic textbook contains the infamous Chernobyl source terms supplied by the Russian government, which was later discovered to estimate fallout within Russia only.

• This is the most comprehensive survey on the transuranium nuclides in all the literature published on the topic, and probably the best publication the U.S. Department of Energy has ever issued.

• One of many publications by a tiny, obscure division of the DOE, the EML has produced a whole series of reports on environmental radiation, and played a role in documenting Chernobyl fallout (See RAD 10). Additional EML reports are cited elsewhere in this website.

• This is a comprehensive handbook containing basic health physics and radiological health data including information on radiation dosimetry of every description. Numerous tables provide information on dose rate factors, committed dose equivalents and other radiobiological data. A definitive reference for health physics information.
• The pie chart on page 4 (circa 1992) perpetuates the misinformation that weapons testing fallout provided only .3% of total effective dose of radiation exposure in the United States. See the 1997 NCI report which effectively deconstructs this pie chart.

• Before the Chernobyl accident, the source terms controversy was a subject of intense discussion. The Chernobyl accident illustrated the inadequacy of the old source terms estimates and rendered many previous official source terms estimates obsolete.

• This publication precedes the current EPA report on environmental radiation; these reports become more detailed the further back you go in time. Radiological Health Data and Reports preceded this publication which was originally published by the AEC as Radiological Health Data beginning in Nov. 1960 (All of these reports are cited in RAD 9: Dietary Intake. The most comprehensive data is in the earlier reports which document the intense levels of weapons derived fallout in the 1960's).

• Unlike earlier U.S. government publications on radiation data (See RAD 9), these contemporary reports of composites and monthly averages assure the reader the minimum possible amount of information from a maximum amount of data. Radiometric surveys and media-specific data are avoided for everything except milk.
