INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
2013 Internship is open

We are looking for students interested in working in an exciting, evolving museum. The Davistown Museum is a regional tool, art, and history museum in historic Liberty Village, Maine.  Its primary mission is the recovery, interpretation, and display of hand tools used in Maine and New England's maritime culture.  It serves as an important clearinghouse for information on the history of hand tools and their roles in the early industries of Maine and New England.  The museum also provides a forum for contemporary Maine artists to exhibit their work.  It creates a unique environment that juxtaposes tools as historical and sculptural objects with a wide diversity of art forms. The museum also strives to increase awareness of and access to information on local, regional, Native American, and environmental history.

We offer an un-paid summer internship, with the possibility of on-site accommodations provided.  Applicants would ideally have an interest in Maine history, art, and museum operations.  Interns help run the museum, greeting and interacting with visitors and working on assigned projects.  The intern will also help with daily operations and other areas, which might include collections cataloguing using PastPerfect museum software; library-related work, e.g. organizing on-site holdings and entering citations in on-line bibliographies; research; and sales and record-keeping in the museum gallery and store.

Those interested in interning at our museum should begin by visiting our website at www.davistownmuseum.org and reading the latest newsletter TOOLING AROUND, posted on the site, to get a better sense of what we do and if/how they might match with our missions.  They should then submit a resume and letter of interest, explaining their background and their interest in and potential contributions to the Davistown Museum missions.

Candidates should be willing and able to work at the museum up to four days per week all summer, including Wednesdays, Thursday, Fridays, and other days, depending on our needs and the intern's availability.  We have an apartment that is part of the museum and could offer accommodations as needed.
