Registry of Maine Tool Museums

The back roads of Maine contain a surprising number of small museums devoted to a particular trade.  There are also several larger museums dedicated to a particular trade (e.g. the excellent lumbering tool museum in Patten, ME) or with extensive collections of Maine-related tools (Maine Maritime Museum in Bath, Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport, Maine State Museum in Augusta).  A typical example of a small museum in progress is the museum planned by the Rocky Coast Rock Shop in Mt. Desert, ME for tools used in the granite cutting trade in Maine.  If you know of any other museums please contact us and we will add them to our listings of Maine Museums.  Also see the links section of our web pages for connections to art and history museums in Maine.
